About MBK Academy
Empowering the Muslim Community
Through Faith-Based Fitness
MBK Academy is a Calgary-based sports and fitness initiative dedicated to empowering the Muslim community through athletics and wellness. Our mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and faith-conscious environment where Muslim brothers and sisters can engage in physical activity while upholding Islamic values.
We offer a diverse range of sports programs conducted in a segregated and Islamic manner, ensuring modesty, comfort, and professionalism at every level. Each session is held in private, fully booked facilities, led by certified male and female instructors during separate timings.
Through this approach, MBK Academy enables participants to experience the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of sports — fostering discipline, unity, and strength within the community while staying true to the principles of Islam.

In Collaboration with
Al-Ansaar Islamic Foundation, Akram Jomaa & OBK School
MBK Academy proudly partners with Islamic institutions to further our shared vision: building a strong Muslim community—mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Our programs are designed to instill discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Through competitive sports, youth and adults alike learn how to lose with grace, win with humility, and grow with each experience.
As the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, though both are good."
Our Founder Headcoach
From a young age, Muhammad Bilal Khandwalla developed a deep passion for athletics — competing in tennis, cycling, triathlon, and swimming. As he matured, he focused his energy on swimming, where his talent quickly set him apart.
By the age of 12, Muhammad was representing Kenya internationally, earning seven gold medals at the Swimming Championships in South Africa. He went on to compete in Egypt and Mauritius, where he was crowned overall champion at the CANA (African Swimming Confederation) event at just 14 years old.
By 17, he had broken several Kenyan national records — some that had stood for over two decades — and went on to rank among the top athletes in cycling and triathlon as well.
At 18, Muhammad moved to Canada to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Business at the University of Calgary, where he continued his active lifestyle through table tennis, squash, badminton, skiing, ice skating, and horseback riding. Despite exploring many sports, his passion for swimming remained central to his life.
Motivated by a desire to give back, Muhammad became a certified swim coach, dedicated to teaching both children and adults this essential life skill. He holds multiple certifications, including:
-
National Lifeguard (NL)
-
Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)
-
First Aid & CPR
-
National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in Competitive Swimming
What sets Muhammad apart is his results-driven coaching philosophy. He guarantees that students will learn to swim within just a few sessions — a promise backed by his full money-back guarantee, a reflection of his confidence, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.
Beyond athletic achievement, Muhammad’s mission is rooted in faith and community. Through his programs, he aims to bring sports to the children of the Muslim community, helping them adhere to the Sunnah while developing discipline, focus, and strength. His vision is to revive the Sunnah of sports — such as swimming, archery, and horseback riding — so that Muslim youth grow not only physically strong, but also spiritually grounded and emotionally resilient, ready to lead their communities with excellence and purpose.
